Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 is not only Mahler’s longest work, but is the longest symphony in the standard repertoire. A typical performance lasts between 90 and 105 minutes. The six-movement piece is regarded as one of Mahler’s greatest, and has been recorded by all of the major orchestras. This recording of Mahler’s 3rd symphony was taken in Moscow, 1961, and features contralto Valentina Levko as well as the Ladies of the Moscow State Choir and Children’s Choir. Alongside Mahler’s work is Prokofiev’s October, Cantata Op 74, in a recording taken in Moscow in 1966. Both of these works feature the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Kirill Kondrashin.

Several radio stations, back in the 1950's and 60's were traditional classical format stations with periods devoted to beautiful instrumental music. WQXR in New York City broadcast "Cocktail Time" in late afternoon hosted by Duncan Pirnie long time WQXR announcer. In Washington DC, all classical WASH host Richard Patrick presented a block of beautiful instrumentals on morning serenade beginning at 9AM. Popular Delaware Valley station WJBR, out of Wilmington, Delaware presented beautiful music throughout the day with an evening of classical music hosted by Jack Reynolds. WRC the MOR-NBC station in Washington DC had a one hour beautiful music segment hosted by Lee Dayton, at midnight, called 'Time For Dreams'. Ken Orr and R. Alan Campbell hosted all night classical programs on WPBS in Philadelphia which was primarily a beautiful music station. There were several others around the USA including <a href="http://beautifulmusicradio.blogspot.mx/2013/05/american-airlines-americas-leading.html">American Airlines 'Music til Dawn'</a> and other countries around the world. In this tradition Quality Music continues today right here...meeting all copyright regulations. Middle of the road (MOR) music was a commercial radio format which encompassed several styles. MOR music was broadly popular music; generally, strongly melodic and often features vocals and orchestral arrangements. During the 1960s and the 1970s, the beautiful music radio stations were considered MOR radio, while today they are the smooth jazz and the adult contemporary radio formats.
